Local Attractions & Local Summary
Beautiful Bright is situated on the scenic Great Alpine Road and is a popular year round tourist centre.
Its proximity to the mountain and ski resorts of Mount Buffalo, Mount Hotham and Falls Creek makes Bright a great centre for winter breaks. Surrounded by the towering mountains of the Victorian Alps, Bright's autumn reputation is well deserved when the blazing colours of its large variety of deciduous trees creates a spectacular display, celebrated annually by the Bright Autumn Festival. Summer sees all manner of fun activities in the town and the surrounding area, and spring is just magnificent as the days warm up and the flowers and plants blossum.
The Ovens River runs through the town complemented by a number of lovely parks and picnic spots. There is a designated swimming area at the junction of the river with Morses Creek where there is also an expansive childrens play area and some BBQ facilities.
Bright is a great centre for cycling - young and older - at whatever level you choose. You can hire bikes and neat tow along buggies locally, or bring your own. There is a fun BMX track at Pioneer Park, where you might be lucky enough to catch a local football game or see the local pony club going through its paces. Further along the Wandiligong road is the landing zone for the Mystic Mountain paragliders - looks like fun!
A day trip up Mount Buffalo is always an interesting day out - fantastic views, maybe a coffee or meal at the chalet, some neat walks, perhaps a picnic. If the mood takes you, you can cycle there and back - or cheat by taking the bike up on the car for an exhilarating ride down!
